Onboard hatch cover hyd cylinder maintenance

Challenge: A bulk carrier’s hatch‐cover cylinder was weeping hydraulic oil, risking cargo damage and unscheduled downtime.
What We Did:

  • Disassembled the cylinder in-situ, carefully removed the worn rod and barrel assembly

  • Replaced all OEM-spec seals, bearings and guide rings

  • Honed the cylinder bore and polished the rod to eliminate pitting

  • Reassembled and ran a 200 bar pressure test to classification standards

  • Applied a marine-grade corrosion-resistant finish
Result: Restored 100 % leak-free operation without dry-docking, eliminated hatch‐leak risk, and cut future maintenance intervals by 30 %.
